Sea Turtle Sidekick

Sea turtle side kick.jpg

Australian Sea Turtles are mostly found in warm, tropical areas off the northern coast of Australia. Sea Turtles can live for over 100 years and have been living on earth since the dinosaurs. They always return to the beach where they were born to lay their eggs. They are able to do this because they can detect the earth’s magnetic field and use it as a compass.

The main threats to sea turtles are when they see a plastic bag, they think it’s a jellyfish: their favourite snack. They eat it, then get sick as a result. Another threat is dogs coming to a beach and digging up the eggs buried in the sand that the sea turtles lay.

The donation from this Wildlife Wizards badge goes to the Australian Marine Conservation Society who pick up plastic in the ocean and campaign for animals.
