Red Handfish are very rare and only found in Tasmania. You can find them in sandy or shelly areas near algae or sea grass. The mums guard their eggs until they hatch. Handfish walk along the sea floor searching for shrimp to eat.

Unfortunately, their main habitat is a busy, industrial estuary where they often get covered by silt, or killed by introduced species.

The donation from this Wildlife Wizards badge goes to the Handfish Conservation Project who are helping handfish recover through captive breeding and habitat conservation.
